I've been thinking for some time about sharing my own story about how I grew up and how that shaped me into who I am today. Since this is a really personal decision, I'd recorded part of it and then let it sit for a while. Then as I met with more people who shared their Bet on You stories with me, it seemed hypocritical to ask them to open up, and not be willing to do the same. That thought, in conjunction with the stories I've heard over the years as I've spoken about violence and what we hear about more and more in the news today, it seemed the right time to let you all in. This is just my story of how violence has impacted my life, the way I used that to drive me to be successful, mistakes that I've made along the way and how I've focused my work on protecting others.
